Today, we went over three-dimensional shapes. We looked at samples of 3-D shapes and labeled and defined the parts, including the face, edge, height, and base. We then discussed how to name each shape depending on its characteristics. For example if the base is square and the faces are triangular and meet at a vertex, what is the shape? By this description, the shape is a square pyramid.

Today we learned something new...The Pythagorean Theorem. This formula helps you find the missing sides of right triangles. If you are stuck on your homework, review the notes in your packet while doing your homework.
Tomorrow there is a quiz on Sections 8-5 to 8-7. This covers circumference and area of a circle, irrational & rational numbers, and the Pythagorean Theorem.

Today, we went over Perfect Squares and Irrational Numbers. Everyone has a purple sheet in their Chapter 8 packet that has a list of Perfect Squares that will come in handy when doing their homework tonight. We went over squaring numbers, using square roots (the opposite of squaring a number) and how to determine whether a number is rational or irrational. Irrational numbers cannot be made into a fraction and are non-repeating and non-terminating. This week's lessons have been more challenging than in previous weeks because we have multiple formulas to work with at the same time.

Today we learned how to find the area and the perimeter of a triangle. With the activity we did in class, we discovered that the area of a triangle is 1/2 the area of a rectangle. Therefore the formula for area of a triangle is A = 1/2bh. Perimeter is the distance around a figure. So to find perimeter of a triangle, you would add up all 3 sides of the triangle.

Today we prepared for the test by doing the Chapter Review. After doing the Chapter Review you should correct it on page 735. After you corrected the review, you should go back and read over and do problems from the sections where you did problems incorrectly. This is a great way to study for the test.
Remember to study tonight by doing problems. Either redo you the Practice Test for Chapter 7 or the Chapter Review. You may also go on line and do practice tests. The website is phschool.com and the web code is ara-0752
