Today we learned how to find a percent of a number. For example 15% of 40. To do this problem you would change 15% to a decimal, .15 and multiply it by 40. The problem would be .15x40 = 6.

We also worked on some story problems that involved statistics from actual data from Crossroads.

Tomorrow there is a quiz over 6-2 to 6-4. Remember to study tonight!!

The best way to study for the exam is to do the Exam Review again. On my web-page in the attachment section, the exam review and the answer key is there for you to use. You can print out the exam review and do it again!

Today we did a variety of things. We reviewed last nights homework, went over some more examples involving scale and proportions, and work on the Chapter Test in preparation for the test on Thursday. Speaking of the test on Thursday, I am requiring that the students show ALL of the steps for each problem. Each question will be worth 2 points, 1 point for showing work/steps and 1 point for the correct answer. Students who do not show their work but get all the questions correct will receive 50%, so it is very IMPORTANT that students show ALL of their work.

I updated grades on Edline today. The ** for the Type 3 Writing means that the assignment was turned in. I have just not had time to grade it. If the score is 0, then the student did NOT do the assignment.

Remember, Friday, January 14 is the LAST day to turn in missing work for the marking period. Exams start next week Wednesday. Students will receive the exam review on Thursday. We will spend time working on the review in class on Friday, Monday for morning classes only, and we will go over the review in class on Tuesday.

A had an addition to our class today, Ms. Schram. Ms. Schram is a student from Western Michigan University who will be coteaching with me for the next 20 weeks. I am looking forward to having another teacher in the room to help the students. So far, Ms. Schram has fit in very well to our classroom.

Today's lesson focused on scale drawings and using scale to find the actual size of things. The scale drawing that we used in class today was a Michigan map. We used the scale to find the actual distances from Grand Rapids to various cities in Michigan. Students worked in groups while doing this activity.

After doing a few practice problems in class, students worked with a partner on a worksheet. To prepare (or study) for the quiz tomorrow, students should finish the pink worksheet and do the Checkpoint Quiz on page 237. The Checkpoint Quiz can be corrected on page 717 in section 5-2.
